Class Ring History

History

image

Mississippi State University has had the same ring design since 1935, when H.E. “Slim” Allen and L.G. Balfour created the official ring of our university. The design has remained consistent, and the ring has been a way for Bulldogs all over the world to connect to one another.

The top of the ring displays a brilliant garnet (maroon) stone encircled by the words “Mississippi State University” and “1878”, the year of the institution’s founding. The two star dividers recognize Mississippi State and the State of Mississippi’s involvement in any armed conflict through 1878.

The two sides feature busts of important figures to the university—Stephen D. Lee (the university’s first president) and Bully.

They are emblazoned on a coat of arms that signifies the military involvement and leadership that has decorated the long and illustrious history of MSU. The customizable feature, available to all who purchase a ring, is the ability to have your class year, as well as your degree added to the sides of the ring.

All of this combines to create a truly unique tradition that all Bulldogs can be proud of!
